My Approach

I approach my work from what we *therapist types* call a strengths-based perspective. What does that mean? Instead of telling you what to do, I trust you to find your own answers.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t sit silently, nodding my head, and taking notes. I play an active role in the relationship by offering potential solutions and reframing your perceptions of what’s going on in your life.

I blend psychodynamic therapy with a cognitive behavioral approach. If that sounds jargony to you, I’ll explain.

Psychodynamic therapy helps us pinpoint, process, and overcome issues from our past–the sticky, messy childhood stuff–because even though it happened a long time ago, trust me, it can still trip us up.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is all about the here and now. The goal is to help us identify and change unhelpful thought patterns that have a negative influence on our behavior and emotions. Once we do, we can achieve better life outcomes.

And for good measure, I use coaching techniques and frameworks I mastered while earning my certified professional coaching credential. Learn about my leadership coaching practice.

Most importantly, I bring warmth, humanity, and humor to my life and work.
